Carl Cox has postponed his highly anticipated set at this year's Movement festival, opting to reschedule his performance at the Detroit event to 2026.

Taking to Instagram to break the news, the UK DJ cited scheduling conflicts as the reason for the change, assuring fans that he would return next year with his full live show. While Cox’s absence is a blow to the festival’s lineup, organizers have swiftly filled the gap, confirming that legendary techno pioneer Jeff Mills will now take center stage as the headliner on Saturday, May 24th.

Mills, an integral figure in Detroit’s techno legacy, expressed his excitement about the opportunity, stating: “To be able to play in Detroit is, and has always been, a special kind of magic. It’s one of the few places in the world where anything could happen because of a higher premium of music ‘sense’ most people have, and it’s constantly being handed down from one generation to the next. Detroit is the place that understands the power of music and the value of a soulful and moving experience.”

The announcement follows Movement’s full lineup reveal earlier this month, which boasted an impressive roster of talent, including Charlotte de Witte, John Summit, HAAi, and Underground Resistance co-founder Mike Banks. With the addition of Mills, festivalgoers can expect an even deeper connection to Detroit’s rich electronic music heritage.

Cox, a revered figure in the global dance music scene, has remained a dominant force in the industry for decades. Just last month, he treated fans to the full recording of his electrifying DJ set from Burning Man 2024’s Mayan Warrior stage, further showcasing his ability to captivate audiences worldwide.

While fans may have to wait until 2026 to witness Carl Cox at Movement, the addition of Jeff Mills ensures that the festival remains a must-attend event for electronic music enthusiasts. With Detroit’s deep-rooted influence in the genre, Movement 2025 is shaping up to be yet another unforgettable edition of the iconic festival.
